POOR JENNY McCARTHY

Last night on “Access Hollywood,” Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy discussed her new book, Bad Habits; she is featured on the cover dressed as a nun. She recounted a story from 1995 when she was in Italy. She claims that a few “mafia” guys brought her to the pope’s apartment (he was allegedly out-of-town) where she tried on some of his clothes. At the suggestion of her Jewish friends, she allegedly grabbed a crucifix as a souvenir for her mother.

Bill Donohue comments on this issue today:

Poor Jenny. She has not had an easy life. A single mother, she once had this to say of her son’s seizures: “When your kid is psychotic or crazy, you go into a place of shock so you can remain calm.” Must be some “place.” She’s also said that her son contracted autism from the MMR vaccine and that he was healed through experimental treatments.

Jenny is also known for doing ads while sitting on a toilet. In a TV commercial that never aired, she was shown passing gas in a crowded elevator. On her own MTV show, she once played a character who vomits on a table to remember what she had for lunch, only to eat it again. In her new book, she tells how she and thirteen other Playmates got high on Ecstasy and then began making out on a beach. No wonder she’s a celebrity.

Regarding religion, 15 years ago Jenny said she still thinks of herself as a Catholic, insisting that “I broke free from the chain of the pope.” Free at last, she opined, “The Catholic religion was making me feel a tad bit guilty for everything I was doing.” Call her what you want, but at least she’s not a total sociopath.

Now you know why the Catholic League can’t get too worked up about poor Jenny.

VIRGIN MARY DEFILED ON “SOUTH PARK”

The Comedy Central show, “South Park,” reran an episode last night that the station’s officials previously said would not air again.  Titled “Bloody Mary,” the episode depicts a statute of the Virgin Mary spraying blood from her vagina into the cartoon-face of Pope Benedict XVI.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue offered these remarks today:

“On December 29, 2005, we received a phone call from Tony Fox, the executive vice president for corporate communications at Comedy Central, informing us that there were no plans to rerun ‘Bloody Mary.’ Fox’s call followed a sustained protest by the Catholic League that resulted in getting Joe Califano, a member of Viacom’s board of directors (Viacom owns MTV and Comedy Central is a subsidiary of MTV), to intervene in this matter;  unfortunately, Califano is no longer on Viacom’s board.  But now Comedy Central has reneged on its promise.

“Those who work at Comedy Central are cowards: to this day, they refuse to air a mere picture of the prophet Muhammad.  That’s because they know that if they do, some Muslims may kill them.  Nice lesson they’re sending the rest of us.

“The ‘Bloody Mary’ episode was written, produced and distributed by men and women who were sober and have a long track record of attacking Christians.  But it failed to hit Hollywood’s hot button.  How revealing.”

VIRGIN MARY DEFILED ON “SOUTH PARK”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue remarked today about last night’s episode of “South Park” (it will run again for the next three nights):

“A ‘South Park’ character gets a DWI and is ordered to attend AA meetings.  Told about the 12-step program, he concludes that he needs a miracle to cure him.  The plot then focuses on a statue of the Virgin Mary who is ‘bleeding out her ass.’  The Vatican dispatches a cardinal to investigate and he is sprayed with blood when he walks behind the statue.  He then declares this to be a miracle, which draws even more people.  The alcoholic, now in a wheelchair, is also sprayed with blood: he then claims he is cured and jumps out of his seat.

“Pope Benedict XVI goes to investigate.  He, too, is sprayed with blood when he walks behind the statue.  A reporter says, ‘The pope investigated further and determined that the statue was not bleeding out its ass, but its vagina.’  To which the pope replies: ‘A chick bleeding out her vagina is no miracle.  Chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time.’

“Comedy Central is a subsidiary of MTV, which is owned by Viacom.  On the board of directors of Viacom is a practicing Catholic and a distinguished public servant, Joseph A. Califano; he served under Presidents Johnson and Carter.  We are writing to him today requesting that he intervene in this matter.  We want a) an apology to Roman Catholics and b) a pledge that this episode be permanently retired and not be made available on DVD.  In the event Viacom does not cooperate, we are asking Mr. Califano to issue his own statement of condemnation.  We are asking our members to contact him as well. Remember, they chose to insult Our Blessed Mother on the eve of the Immaculate Conception, and the holy day itself.

“Joseph A. Califano is chairman of the board of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.  He can be reached at CASA, 633 Third Avenue, NY, NY 10017; phone, 212-841-5200; fax, 212-956-8020; email, employment@casacolumbia.org.”

MTV’S “THE REAL WORLD” SLAMS CATHOLICISM

The sixth season premiere of MTV’s “The Real World” opened July 16 with an attack on Catholicism. The show features a group of strangers from various backgrounds who come to work and live together. Two of the seven characters are identified as Catholics; curiously, we learn nothing of the religious affiliation of the other five. What we do learn is that Catholicism is viewed with disdain. Here is a sample:

  • The roommate of a Catholic woman says that discussions about the Catholic Church make her “scared.”
  • The same person admits that she is proudly anti-Christian because the Church is “really bad for women.”
  • A “Virgin Mary night light” is dubbed “kind of funny” by the owner.
  • Catholicism is labeled “dogmatic Christianity.”
  • The Catholic woman is accused of trying to bring her values into the bedroom; she is also targeted by the group as a candidate that “we’re gonna corrupt.”

William Donohue commented on the show today:

“MTV has often been criticized for showing bad taste, but its latest venture into Catholic bashing surpasses its previous decadence. None of the attacks on Catholicism can be seen as merely controversial commentary, for if that were the case then other groups would be selected for ridicule as well. No, this is calculated old-fashioned anti-Catholicism.

“No doubt the reason that Catholicism is made the butt of such derision has to do with the contrasting values that MTV and the Church have: MTV’s hedonistic message is constantly being challenged by the Roman Catholic Church and that is not something the trendy-types can stand.

“It is our hope that TV media critics take due note of MTV’s latest foray against elementary standards of decency. The more the public learns of MTV’s bigotry, the less likely they will be to support it. We hope to do our part by contacting the program’s sponsors.”
