LYING ABOUT WHITE SUPREMACISTS

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on lies being told about white supremacists:

White people, in general, have a difficult time defending themselves against racist comments. That’s too bad because their reticence begets more attacks on them.

In his inaugural address, Joe Biden singled out white supremacy as a force to be reckoned with. He did not define what he meant by this term, nor did he offer any examples, though many reporters noted that he was referring to the January 6 Capitol riot.

David Horowitz slammed Biden’s remark as a “monstrous lie.” The evidence supports him.

Are white people a threat to safety? The latest FBI statistics reveal that blacks, who are 12.5% of the population, comprise 58% of all murder arrests and 40% of all violent crimes. In New York City, whites are 33% of the population but account for only 2% of shootings. Blacks, who are 23% of the population, commit 75% of all shootings.

Christian Picciolini was a leader in the skinhead movement for a quarter century, so he should know who the white supremacists are. “It’s the average American. It is our mechanics, it’s our dentists, it’s our teachers, lawyers, doctors, nurses and unfortunately that’s the way it’s turned into the last 30 years.”

What is really unfortunate is the bigoted swipe at virtually every white person. If what he said were true, then, to take one index, we should expect that the rate of violent crimes committed by whites would be very high, but it isn’t. That’s because the “average American” is not a white supremacist.

New York Times columnist Charles Blow is also guilty of making wild generalizations. In his piece on August 16, he says that the latest census figures are “terrifying” for “white nationalists.” He does not explain who these people are, nor does he provide a scintilla of evidence that the “white power acolytes”—whoever they are—are terrified about the census.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which was founded to combat anti-Semitism, but has more recently evolved into a left-wing activist organization, is leading the way with charges of white supremacy killings. It offers as an example of white supremacist violence the shootings at a Parkland, Florida high school, the Tree of Life synagogue killings in Pittsburgh, the shootings at the Poway Chabad in California, and a violent attack at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.

The ADL’s analysis is sophomoric and misleading.

Nikolas Cruz, 22, killed 17 and wounded 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in 2018. He had been expelled from the school for disciplinary reasons and was a known racist, but he was not active in white supremacist organizations. When he was jailed, he attacked an officer.

In 2018, Robert Bowers entered the Tree of Life Synagogue and yelled “All Jews must die” as he opened fire on the congregants. When the National Council of Jewish Women issued a statement about the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in American history, they cited his anti-Semitism but said not a word about him being a white supremacist.

The Poway synagogue shootings in 2019 were committed by John Earnest, a young man who hated Jews and Muslims. The San Diego ex-nurse, who killed one woman, had no criminal record and had no connection to any white supremacist group.

Patrick Crusius killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso in 2019. He said his target was “Mexicans.” He was known for his anti-Mexican rants and most of those whom he killed had Spanish surnames.

These four tragedies were the work of very sick men, all of whom were bigots. But if we are to call every white racist shooter a white supremacist—when there is no evidence of ties to any such group—then we are not dealing with reality. Klansmen are white supremacists, and they are not your “average American.”

To be sure, there are violent white supremacists, but to slap the label “white supremacist” on every white bigoted thug is positively absurd. Those who do so are furthering a political agenda, and are not interested in telling the truth.

CDC IS TO THE LEFT OF THE MEDIA

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on just how far left the CDC has become:

As recently as a few years ago, no one would believe that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) was to the left of the mainstream media. But a lot has recently changed.

From draconian strictures on Covid to the latest pronouncements on climate change, it is clear that the CDC has become a very political institution. Perhaps nothing shows how much it has changed more than its comments on the necessity of pregnant women to become vaccinated.

Whether pregnant women should be vaccinated is not, per se, an ideological issue. What makes it so is the linguistic politics employed by the CDC: It refers to pregnant women as “pregnant people.” This is done, of course, not to offend the sexually challenged, namely women who consider themselves to be a man and are, or may become, pregnant.

Of course, in the real world, everyone who has not yet lost his mind—the pool is shrinking at an alarming rate—knows that it is a fiction to believe that men can become pregnant. Unfortunately, the CDC is one of the foremost promoters of this fiction: it used the term “pregnant people” 29 out of 30 times in its statement recommending that pregnant women be vaccinated.

The media did not uniformly follow the CDC’s lead. Here is how prominent media outlets addressed this issue. (The numbers refer to how many times various terms were employed in their initial story on this subject.)

CDC:
• “Covid-19 Vaccines while Pregnant or Breast Feeding”
• Pregnant Women: 1
• Pregnant “People”: 29

Associated Press:
• “CDC urges COVID vaccines during pregnancy as delta surges”
• Pregnant Women: 7
• Pregnant “People”: 0
• Pregnant Patients: 5
[Appeared in LA Times, Sun Sentinel, New Orleans Times-Picayune, and NBC News Website]

Reuters:
• “CDC Recommends Pregnant Women get Covid-19 Vaccine”
• Pregnant Women: 1
• Pregnant “People”: 2

Washington Post:
• “CDC guidance now official: Pregnant people should get coronavirus vaccine”
• Pregnant Women: 10
• Pregnant “People”: 3

New York Times:
• “The C.D.C. endorses Covid vaccinations during pregnancy”
• Pregnant Women: 5
• Pregnant “People”: 2

Boston Globe:
• “FDA set to OK booster shots for limited group”
• Pregnant Women: 5
• Pregnant “People”: 1

San Francisco Chronicle:
• “CDC endorses COVID vaccine during pregnancy”
• Pregnant Women: 4
• Pregnant “People”: 0

NPR Website:
• “Vaccinating During Pregnancy Has Become Even More Urgent As ICU Beds Fill Up”
• Pregnant Women: 1
• Pregnant “People”: 4
• Pregnant “Individuals”: 1
• Those who are pregnant/someone who is pregnant: 7

CBS:
• CBS News Website:
• “CDC now recommends pregnant people get vaccinated”
• Pregnant Women: 1
• Pregnant “People”: 4
• Pregnant or Lactating Individuals: 1

ABC:
• ABC News Website:
• “CDC strengthens recommendation that pregnant women get” vaccinated
• Pregnant Women: 8
• Pregnant “People”: 1

CNN:
• CNN Wire:
• “CDC strengthens recommendation for pregnant women to get vaccinated against Covid-19”
• Pregnant Women: 6
• Pregnant “People”: 1
• Those who are pregnant/anyone who is pregnant: 3

Fox News:
• Fox News Website:
• “CDC advices COVID-19 vaccines for pregnant women”
• Pregnant Women: 5
• Pregnant “People”: 0

The inconsistent usage that is evident in most of these listings suggests that the media are themselves in transition. A lag effect is evident: they have not caught up to the linguistic politics of the CDC.

But give them some time—by the end of the year they will retire the term pregnant women from their lexicon, referring only to “pregnant people.” Look for these geniuses to call women who menstruate “people who menstruate,” and men with prostate issues “people with prostate issues.”

It’s time we asked Bruce how Caitlyn feels about this subject. Maybe he/she/they/them (Who dat?) can figure this out.

LOUIS C.K. STARTS NEW TOUR

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the return of comedian Louis C.K.:

Louis C.K. starts his 24-city comeback tour on August 13 and 14 at Madison Square Garden. Whether or not he has been rehabilitated remains to be seen. The test will come during and after the show.

Louis C.K. has used the “C-word” when talking about Sarah Palin and has joked about the Parkland shooting survivors. We know him at the Catholic League for making jokes about the crucifixion of Christ and his remark about Pope Benedict XVI “f***ing boys.”

It remains to be seen if Louis C.K. can entertain his audience without being obscene or making anti-Catholic remarks. It also remains to be seen if he can restrain himself after the show is over. His past record is not endearing.

In November 2017, the New York Times ran a story about Louis C.K. being accused by five women of sexual misconduct. One story, from 2002, recounted the tale of two female comedians who accepted his invitation to go back to his hotel room for drinks.

He asked them if it was okay to show his penis. They thought he was joking, but soon found out that he wasn’t. “He proceeded to take all of his clothes off, and get completely naked, and started masturbating.” The following day, the Times ran another story, this time quoting what Louis C.K. had to say about the five women accusers. “These stories are true,” he said.

Regarding this last item, it might be best if he asked for the advice of Jeffrey Toobin at CNN on how to proceed—he is a master of the subject.

MEDIA IGNORE ANTIFA ASSAULT ON CHRISTIANS

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on media coverage of an Antifa event:

Antifa, the urban terrorists, brutally assaulted Christians who were praying in a Portland park on August 7th, and the media have almost totally ignored it. Dressed in black, with face coverings, the left-wing nihilists destroyed the sound system and assaulted the Evangelicals with pepper spray and projectiles.

Andy Ngo, the reporter who has covered Antifa better than anyone—and has been beaten up for doing so—recorded this savage event. Flash bombs were thrown at kids as young as four months old. “Where is your god now?” asked an Antifa thug.

The police were called to the scene but did nothing. They were acting rationally: The authorities have yielded power to street barbarians, handcuffing the cops. The same passive police presence is now routine in America’s largest cities, thanks to no bail, no prosecutions, no insurance protection for cops, and calls to dismantle the police and empty the prisons.

Quite frankly, it is now borderline legal to kill and maim innocent persons in urban America, including those whose crime it is to pray in public, never mind the police. Anarchy reigns. And what do the media do? Nothing.

Not one major newspaper or wire service covered the Antifa assault on Christians. Broadcast TV networks also ignored it, and among the cable channels, only the three conservative outlets, Fox News, Newsmax and OAN profiled the story. Ngo had video footage but had few takers.

By contrast, the recent CNN interview with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) was covered by almost all the mainstream media: print, internet and television gave it wide attention.

She said that on the day of the Capitol riot, January 6, she feared for her life, adding that she also feared she would be raped. Yet unlike the Christians who were attacked, no one laid a hand on her. They couldn’t—she was not in the Capitol when the riot occurred (she was safely tucked away in her office).

Unlike the Christian victims of Antifa, AOC’s tale of woe is patently contrived. For the media to play up her phony story while dismissing the real-life Antifa riot, smacks of ideological and religious bias. No wonder the public holds the big media in such low esteem. Cub reporters earn more respect these days.

CUOMO’S VERY CATHOLIC ENDING

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the collapse of Gov. Cuomo:

On this date in 258, St. Lawrence was roasted to death on a gridiron for remaining loyal to the Catholic Church. Fast forward to August 10, 2021, when another Catholic, New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is being roasted by the media for his disloyalties. Indeed, he’s toast.

Even in leaving, Cuomo still doesn’t get it. “In my mind,” he said, “I’ve never crossed the line with anyone. But I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn.”

He should have—he was the one who redrew it. In 2019, he bragged that New York is “the most aggressive state in the country on women’s rights. Anything I can do on sexual harassment we will do.” Thus did he unwittingly lay the trap that would eventually ensnare him.

In 2019, the “former altar boy,” as he liked to refer to himself, signed the Child Victims Act, a law which suspended the statute of limitations for sexual offenses against minors. At the time, he singled out the Catholic Church for condemnation, knowing full well that this problem was most acute in the public schools. Last year, he authorized a one-year extension of the law (the statute applied to others but rapacious lawyers focused almost exclusively on the Catholic Church).

How ironic it is to note that the Child Victims Act, which was never about justice for everyone, is set to expire on August 14, the same week Cuomo packed it in following multiple sexual misconduct allegations.

Now, at least, there may be justice for his many alleged female victims. As such, this is making for a very Catholic ending.

SIMONE BILES’ HIDDEN IDENTITY

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on how the media covered Simone Biles’ religion:

Everyone knows that Simone Biles may be the greatest gymnast of all time, and everyone knows she is black. But few know she is Catholic. Why is that?

The Catholic media mentioned her religious affiliation but the big media did not.

The following newspapers made no mention of her Catholic faith: New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune and the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The Associated Press also failed to cite her Catholicity.

The following TV networks failed to mention her Catholic religion: ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC and PBS.

In her autobiography, Courage to Soar, Biles mentions the role her religion has played in her life and how it has helped her during times of adversity. She has spoken eloquently about her Confirmation experience, and why she chose St. Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes, as her confirmation name. She occasionally carries a statue of St. Sebastian and often carries her white rosary in her gym bag.

So why the blackout? The media constantly tell us that President Biden carries a rosary, so why the reticence when it comes to Biles?

Politics explains why. Biden’s policies are at war with the teachings of the Catholic Church, alienating many Catholics, including the bishops. But the media want him to succeed, and their way of rescuing his religious status is to flag his rosary story.

The situation with Biles is different. Having experienced mental stress at the Olympic games, forcing her to withdraw from a few events, some in the media exploited her racial status with tales of victimhood. None was more melodramatic than Politico.

“Biles is part of a new, more subtle chapter of Black activism that is elevating personal reflection and self-care over the emotional stoicism and reliance that has long been a feature of Black struggle, and of Black success.” Those words of wisdom belong to Erin Aubry Kaplan, an opinion writer for the New York Times. Simply because Biles was stressed out was enough to prove that she has earned a place in the Black Struggle Hall of Fame.

The way the media frame things, to be black is to be a victim; to be a Catholic is to be a victimizer. Therefore citing Biles’ religious affiliation gets in the way of their narrative, which is to cast her as a member of the oppressed class.

All men and women share multiple status identities, and many have a master status. When it comes to public persons, however, the media are not interested in how they identify themselves—they do it for them. In the case of Biles, she is a black female. End of story. No other identities are allowed.

Such is the sad state of identity politics these days.

WILL THE OLYMPICS SURVIVE THE LEFT?

Catholic League president Bill Donohue offers a not so tongue-in-cheek look at the Olympics:

The Olympics are about over. Will they survive? Given the way the ruling class is embracing the politics of the Left, who knows? Here are ten reasons why the Olympics run afoul of “progressive” thought.

  1. Segregation. Segregating the sexes in competition violates the tenet of inclusion.
  2. Meritocracy. The games are based on merit, and that is a vestige of patriarchy.
  3. Hierarchy. Giving gold, silver and bronze medals offends the principle of equality.
  4. Individualism. While there are team sports, many of the games are solo exercises and therefore do violence to collectivism.
  5. Competition. This offends the virtue of cooperation.
  6. Racism. All those white people in swimming and diving events smacks of racism.
  7. Sexism. Skimpy bathing suits for women are patently sexist.
  8. Capitalism. Allowing the winners to make money after the games is a capitalist ploy.
  9. Nationalism. Flag waving is divisive and jingoistic.
  10. Bias. The developed nations have a big advantage given their superior nutrition and training.

The only god worshipped by the Left is egalitarianism. This explains why they hate the games: The Olympics reward hard work and achievement. To top it off, they are color blind. What’s left for the Left to like?

MEDIA IGNORE TRANS MUPPET CHARACTER

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the new Muppet character:

Why would Disney, the alleged family-friendly entertainment giant, want to encourage kids to reject their sex? And why aren’t the media covering this story?

The Muppet character, Gonzo, has “transitioned” to a girl, Gonzorella. That is why he is wearing a dress to the “royal ball.” He does more than wear a dress—he instructs Miss Piggy and Summer that “doing things a little different can be fun.”

The message to children is: a boy can be a girl, and vice versa. Making this choice, they are told, is not something abnormal, it’s just “a little different.” Moreover, it can be “fun” to reject your sex and pretend that you belong to the opposite sex.

This needs to be called out for what it is: child abuse. Anyone who is even remotely knowledgeable about what sex transitioning entails—the physical and psychological problems that boys and girls experience are multiple—knows how pernicious this process is. Seven in ten of those who transition are girls wanting to be boys, and the extent of their suffering is well documented.

So why is it that, aside from some gay and conservative news sources, this story is being ignored by the most influential newspapers, as well as the broadcast and cable news networks? Is it their insouciance that is driving their passivity? Or cowardice?

The big disappointment is the lack of response from the conservative community (thank God we have some like Candace Owens who will not be intimidated). Genuine conservatives are concerned about the three “M’s,” namely, markets, missiles and morality. In recent years, many have all but given up on the latter “M.” Hence, the advent of Disney poisoning the minds of children.

Anyone who thinks that things can’t get much worse is a fool. If conservatives continue to retreat from controversial social and cultural issues, matters will only deteriorate. This is not about treating everyone with respect—that is not the issue—it is about shielding our children from those who want to sexually engineer them.

CUOMO’S ARROGANCE DID HIM IN

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo:

“Mario Cuomo showed me the benefits of being an irritable, thin-skinned and dismissive person. He showed me that arrogance ultimately works.”

That is what Mario’s son, Andrew, said about him in 2002. Ironically, the arrogance that he acquired from his father was ultimately his demise.

The Cuomos will do anything to win and stay in power. When Mario ran for mayor of New York City in 1977 against Ed Koch, posters appeared all over Queens, saying, “Vote for Cuomo, not the homo.” Cuomo’s gay bashing didn’t end there. He accused Koch of endorsing the right of gays to “proselytize,” and even hired a private detective to find out who his “boyfriend” was.

Not to be outdone, Cuomo’s campaign approached a Catholic group in Greenwich Village hoping it would publish a statement saying Koch was gay. It even agreed to pay for this smear.

This kind of thuggery defined Mario, and it obviously defines his son.

The New York Attorney General’s report on Gov. Andrew Cuomo involves much more than the testimony of 11 women who say they were sexually harassed by him. In fact, 179 witnesses were interviewed by investigators. What they found is not pretty.

The investigators found that Cuomo and his aides helped enable “harassment to occur and created a hostile work environment.” That alone is a violation of federal and state civil rights law, never mind what he is accused of personally doing to women. Here are a few examples.

What kind of man, especially one in a position of superior power, runs his hands down a woman’s spine, kisses her, and asks why she is not wearing a dress? This is not a “he said, she said” account: he did this in an elevator in front of others.

What kind of man, especially one in a position of superior power, kisses and gropes a woman staffer and asks her to play “strip poker”?

What kind of man, especially one in a position of superior power, asks a woman employee whether she ever had a relationship with older men? Why would he tell her he was “lonely” during the pandemic and “wanted to be touched”?

What kind of man, especially one in a position of superior power, subjects his executive assistant to unwanted hugs and kisses, including on the lips, and grabs her butt?

What kind of man, especially one in a position of superior power, reaches under the blouse of another executive assistant and grabs her breasts?

What kind of man, especially one in a position of superior power, rubs the palm of his hand on a state trooper’s bellybutton while she opens the door for him?

Andrew Cuomo’s arrogance explains why he is being hoisted by his own petard. It was he who pushed for an expansive sexual harassment law in 2019. He bragged how New York is “the most aggressive state in the country on women’s rights. Anything I can do on sexual harassment we will do.”

He then got specific. “We will make it easier for claims to be brought forward and send a strong message that when it comes to sexual harassment in the workplace, time is up.”

Gov. Cuomo, your time is up. You said your father showed you that “arrogance ultimately works.” Not this time. Better get out of town before they take you out in cuffs.

NEW NPR POLICY DEMANDS END TO FUNDING

Catholic League president Bill Donohue calls for defunding National Public Radio (NPR):

The time has come to defund National Public Radio (NPR). Its latest policy directive to employees removes any pretense of its objectivity.

In July, NPR rolled out its revised ethics policy. Its public editor, Kelly McBride, said it “eliminates the blanket prohibition from participating in ‘marches, rallies and public events,’ as well as vague language that directed NPR journalists to avoid personally advocating for ‘controversial’ or ‘polarizing’ issues.”

What changed? The riots of 2020.

Kelly cites several examples of the kind of activism that fuels NPR. Black Lives Matter is mentioned, along with other references to racially charged news events. Indeed, in anticipation of questions from NPR reporters, she rhetorically asks, “Is it OK to march in a demonstration and say, ‘Black lives matter?’ What about a Pride parade? In theory, the answer today is, ‘Yes.'” [Notice she did not choose a pro-life rally as an example.]

“Protests organized with the purpose of demanding equal and fair treatment of people are now permitted,” Kelly says, “as long as the journalist asking is not covering the event.”

In practice, however, this is untenable. Even if a journalist who joins a Black Lives Matter or Antifa protest does not write about it, who is going to stop this person from writing about counterprotesters? Moreover, if an employee has had an abortion, would that stop her from covering the subject?

To show how utterly void of professional journalistic ethics NPR is, consider what its chief diversity officer, Keith Woods, had to say about conflicting opinions held by NPR employees about this issue. He says the views range from “people who would go so far as to use the word ‘objectivity,'” to those who are the “burn-it-all-down kinds of folks.”

Those who would “go so far as to use the word ‘objectivity'”? Wow. That’s really pushing it. Apparently, there are still some dinosaurs at NPR who believe it is their professional duty to be as objective as they can! They have obviously been crowded out by the “burn, baby, burn” folks.

Then there is the nagging issue of NPR’s anti-Catholic history. Here are some examples.

  • 1997: On July 5, the Weekend Edition aired a segment with host Scott Simon and musical satirist Tom Lehrer that featured Lehrer singing “The Vatican Rag.” It disparaged Catholicism and the Eucharist, including the doctrine of Transubstantiation.
  • 2005: NPR questioned the religion of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts. NPR’s Lynn Neary wondered that since he is a Catholic whether “that might affect the way he views an issue like abortion, for instance.” Nina Totenberg of NPR even went so far as to say that his wife was “a high officer of a pro-life organization. He’s got adopted children. I mean, he’s a conservative Catholic.”
  • 2006: During the Easter season, NPR twice took aim at the divinity of Jesus.
  • 2006: Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Turkey was used by NPR as an occasion to lecture the pope on being sensitive to Muslims by not making any overtly Catholic comments or gestures. It cited prayer and kneeling as examples.
  • 2007: When Samuel Alito was nominated to the high court, NPR’s Dahlia Lithwick said, “People are very, very much talking about the fact that Alito would be the fifth Catholic in the Supreme Court if confirmed.”
  • 2008: Utah’s NPR station, KCPW, featured a skit, “Fair Game with Faith Salie,” that mocked Jesus and the Eucharist.
  • 2012: Barbara Bradley Hagerty did a piece that was posted on NPR’s website that said a Philadelphia priest accused of raping a minor was “not that unusual” for a member of the Catholic clergy.
  • 2013: A movie, “Paradise: Faith,” depicted a “devout” Catholic woman who masturbates with a crucifix as she is making love to Jesus. It was highly recommended by NPR.
  • 2014: An NPR game show, “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me!”, made fun of Jesus dying on the Cross. Sexual references to Jesus were also made.
  • 2019: Wisconsin Public Radio ran a story on sexual abuse in the Catholic Church that gave the impression that nothing has changed, even though practically every “new” case involves allegations from decades ago. It also reported as factual information taken from a grand jury report, never telling listeners that these were all allegations, not proven instances of abuse.
  • 2019: NPR’s new style guide instructed reporters to stop using terms such as “fetal heartbeat,” “partial-birth abortion,” “abortion doctors,” and “abortion clinics.” It even went so far as to ban the word “unborn,” claiming that “Babies are not babies until they are born.”

This is the kind of bias that NPR evinced before its new ethics policy was promulgated. We can only guess how bad things will become now that its reporters can engage in direct activism with impunity.

We are contacting all members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees asking that they defund NPR.

You can help by contacting the ranking minority members of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittees of the Appropriations Committees in Congress. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting funds NPR and its appropriation originates with these subcommittees. Both Sen. Blunt and Rep. Cole are strongly pro-life.
