HILLARY STUMPS IN BLACK CHURCHES

Bill Donohue comments on Hillary Clinton’s speeches in black churches:

When Hillary Clinton went to Flint, Michigan to speak about the water crisis, she could have spoken at a community center or school. Instead she spoke at the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, an African-American house of worship.

In the run-up to the Nevada caucus, Hillary, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, spoke before a black congregation at Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Las Vegas. Rev. Robert E. Fowler Sr. instructed them “to explain why people should vote for them.”

Before the South Carolina primary, Hillary not only stumped in black churches, she bragged how many times she has done so. “I couldn’t help but think about the many, many hours of my life I have spent in a church like this one,” she said. She never goes to pray—just to speak.

On February 27, the Greater Lansing Clergy Forum, an African-American group from Michigan, unanimously endorsed Hillary.

Here is how the Washington Post described Hillary’s speech last Sunday before a huge black audience: “The Memphis congregation is known for being politically active.” She told them, “I need your help on Tuesday.”

On Monday, Hillary held a “get out the vote” rally before a black congregation in Boston, Old South Church.

Yesterday, black clergy from all over Missouri came together to endorse Hillary.

Now if a Catholic priest even addresses abortion from the pulpit, he is slammed by civil libertarians and church-and-state activists for violating the First Amendment. But Hillary can hold political rallies in black churches and no one says a word. Why? Bias and bigotry. The media are biased in favor of Democrats and many of them are white racists—they hold blacks to a lower standard. Some, admittedly, are afraid to speak out. It’s really not very complicated.

PREVIEWS OF “THE REAL O’NEALS” BOMB

Bill Donohue comments on the preview episodes of “The Real O’Neals,” which aired last night:

“The Real O’Neals,” Disney-ABC’s portrayal of an Irish-Catholic family that was inspired by anti-Catholic bigot Dan Savage, kicked off with two previews last night; it officially debuts March 8. While more sophomoric than in-your-face offensive, the episodes were, predictably, filled with anti-Catholic stereotypes. Seemingly the “perfect” Catholic family, the O’Neals’ dysfunctions were revealed over these two episodes:

  • An overzealous mother who abuses statues of the Virgin Mary: one is used to stop her son from having sex; another is placed above the toilet as a reminder to put down the seat
  • The hypocrisy and destructiveness of her religious zealotry, which is pushing her and her husband into divorce and “screwing up our kids”
  • A middle son who comes out as gay and flushes his girlfriend’s unused condoms down the toilet under the watchful eye of one of those Virgin Mary statues; a daughter who is stealing the money she is supposed to be collecting for charity, and who uses her Catholic school science project to deny the existence of God; and an older son who is anorexic—until Mom makes him pancakes shaped like the face of Jesus

We also meet a parish priest who owns a Lexus but invokes his “vow of poverty” when asked to make a charitable donation; “judging nuns” who cast “dirty looks” at the O’Neals once the family’s dysfunctions have been discovered; and a woman parishioner who, competing with Mrs. O’Neal for standing in the parish, delights at the downfall of the family’s reputation.

In short, “The Real O’Neals” is an artistic and moral flop. Just like Dan Savage and the show’s writers.

IRISH CENTRAL DEFENDS ANTI-CATHOLICISM

Bill Donohue comments on Irish Central’s defense of anti-Catholicism:

Anyone who is vaguely familiar with Irish Central knows it is a pro-Irish, anti-Catholic, website. It regularly trashes the Catholic Church’s teachings on sexuality, and is the leading force seeking to rip the Catholic roots from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Now it is defending anti-Catholicism.

Dan Savage is a raging anti-Catholic bigot, something we pointed out this week in the New York Times. But to Irish Central, he is a poor, misunderstood, gay activist. Though he uses words so vulgar that no respectable media outlet would print them, his gutter-talk is defended by Irish Central: it says he is a “satirist” who is “rightfully mad as hell” at the Church. Importantly, Savage’s filthy mouth is not directed at just anyone: he savages the Eucharist, the Virgin Mary, popes, cardinals, and priests in the most vile terms imaginable.

Irish Central is so hate-filled that it even justifies Savage’s attempt to infect an innocent person with his sick bodily fluids by licking the doorknobs in the office of his victim. “Donohue conveniently neglects to mention anything about the flu,” it says, “only referring to Savage’s ‘sick bodily fluids.'” Poor Savage got the flu. Guess that changes everything.

To read the truth about Savage, see our New York Times ad and the one that it refused to print (click here).

I’m glad Irish Central printed this article—it makes my case better than I ever could.

FEIGNED OUTRAGE OVER SEXUAL ABUSE

Bill Donohue comments on the sexual abuse of minors:

Most Americans are truly outraged over the sexual abuse of minors, but there are many who feign anger. Take Mark Ruffalo, star of “Spotlight”: he held a protest outside a Cathedral—almost no one showed up—before the Oscars. Upon receiving his award, the movie’s screenwriter, Josh Singer, took the occasion to lecture Pope Francis. He’s a little late: most of the homosexual abuse in the Church took place between 1965 and 1985. If these people were sincere, they would focus on all abusers, not just priests. For example, the following recent cases elicited no protests.

          • In January, a Saint Paul, Minnesota man was sentenced to 270 days in jail for molesting two girls under the age of 15
          • In January, a Schenectady, New York man who had previously raped a disabled woman was sentenced to six months in jail for abusing two girls: one was 7 and the other was 9
          • In January, a rabbi from East Brunswick, New Jersey was convicted of indecent assault of a child under the age of 13; he was sentenced to 11-23 months
          • In February, a Phoenix man was placed on probation for sexually abusing a teenage girl
          • In February, a West Linn, Oregon man was sentenced to two months in jail for sexually molesting male students
          • In February, a Cheyenne, Wyoming man was given 5 years probation for having sex with a 14-year-old girl
          • In February, a Brooklyn rabbi was sentenced to 60 days in jail for groping four boys, forcing two of them to perform oral sex on him [Only one New York newspaper, the Daily News, did a story]

Priests, of course, are treated differently. To wit: a Missouri priest who possessed child pornography, Fr. Shawn Ratigan, was sentenced to 50 years in prison, even though he never abused anyone. And Fr. Gordon MacRae was sentenced to 67 years for a crime that most independent observers agree he never committed. But there will be no “Spotlight” movie about MacRae’s ordeal. Bet on it.
