PRO-ABORTS DEFILE VIRGIN MARY

femBill Donohue comments on what young feminists are doing:

The passion to kill kids in the womb is so strong among some feminists that they will stop at nothing to advance the cause of abortion. Take the website Feministing.com. It is staffed by young gals whose idea of being a contemporary woman is to be pansexual, and whose ideology is marked by a wicked hatred of Catholicism.

Exhibit A is featured on its homepage today: there is a vile portrayal of Our Blessed Mother, courtesy of a 19 year-old Argentinean woman. It depicts the Virgin Mary, arms stretched in front of her, holding “a naked woman bleeding between her legs.” The inscription in Spanish, which appears below, reads, “Legal[ize] abortion so we don’t die.” To see it (it is disgusting) click here. They like it so much they branded it their “Image of the Day.”

Predictably, these gals hate the pope. When Pope Francis opened the door of forgiveness to women who have had an abortion, he was sincerely embraced by Catholics and non-Catholics alike. But to the sex crazies at Feministing, he was demeaning: they declared that abortion is not a “shameful sin”; rather, it is an expression of “social justice.” In other words, each unborn child whose life is snuffed out is a victory for justice. Orwell is validated once again.

We have noted for a long time that most of the sex crazies—the activists, actors, artists, educators, writers, and the like—are imbued with a pathological hatred of the good. This explains their maniacal hatred of Catholicism and their need to defile the Virgin Mary.

It is only fitting that the offices of Feministing are located at the Center for Sex & Culture on Mission Street in San Francisco. Perhaps they would like to hear from you.

EXPLOITING THE REFORMATION

Bill Donohue comments on a serious distortion of Pope Francis’ words:

On January 25, Pope Francis urged Catholics and Protestants to forgive each other “for the sins of our divisions.” He asked “for mercy and forgiveness for the behavior of Catholics towards Christians of other Churches which has not reflected Gospel values.” He also invited “all Catholic brothers and sisters to forgive if they, today or in the past, have been offended by other Christians.”

That call for mutual forgiveness was twisted by The Trumpet, magazine of the Philadelphia Church of God, into a papal admission of Catholic barbarism. The headline in its February 3 story reads, “Pope Apologizes for Killing Protestants.”

Just as bad, instead of saying the pope asked the faithful for “forgiveness for the behavior of Catholics towards Christians” (this is how the Vatican’s English translation puts it), the article says he asked for “forgiveness for the non-evangelical behavior of Catholics.”

Why does this matter? Because it allows the magazine to mock the pope’s sincerity and distort history. “‘Non-evangelical behavior’ is an interesting euphemism for the massive violence unleashed in the wake of the Reformation. Modern scholars estimate 50 million died in the religious violence that followed in persecutions, counter-persecutions and religious wars.”

Besides misrepresenting what the pope said, that figure has been widely discredited by scholars. Moreover, the killing was committed by both sides.

This is not the first time The Trumpet has libeled the Catholic Church. In February 2011, it accused the Church of having “guided” Nazi Germany. This is a malicious lie.

Pope Francis wants an “authentic search for Christian unity.” It is not well-served by those who falsify history, and the words of the Holy Father.

HOLLYWOOD’S GAY OBSESSION

Bill Donohue comments on another anti-Catholic TV show:

The furor unleashed by Hollywood against Christians, especially Catholics, has never been greater. This is due to many reasons, one of which is the large number of homosexual writers who work there—this is no secret—many of whom bear an animus against Christianity.

The latest evidence came last night on the new NBC sitcom, “Superstore.” It featured a moronic exchange on how to make a gay wedding display even more gay. The discussion quickly evolved into a diatribe against Christianity, concluding that Jesus “would have been pro-gay marriage,” and indeed “would have been pro-gay adoption.” The characters even speculated, “For all we know, Jesus himself was gay.”

Doing a Bing search for “Hollywood gay writers” turns up plenty of stories—one of them lists roughly 900 past and former LGBT Hollywood writers. Here’s a shocker: a similar search for “Hollywood Catholic writers” turns up empty. So much for diversity.

Few Catholics care whether Hollywood writers are disproportionately gay, but they do care about having their religion demeaned and trashed. That this goes on night after night—often accompanying gay-themed commentary—offers indisputable proof how utterly hypocritical the high priests of tolerance really are.

NEW NBC SHOW TAKES SHOT AT PRIESTS

Bill Donohue comments on a slur against priests in NBC’s new show, “You, Me and the Apocalypse”:

“My job’s to prove they felt up kids …”

That’s how “Father Jude,” the foul-mouthed priest character in NBC’s new show, “You, Me and the Apocalypse,” describes his role as “Devil’s Advocate,” or Promoter Fidei, in the Church’s sainthood investigation process.

This bigoted “laugh line” about Catholic priests merited barely a mention in reviews of the show’s very first episode, which aired last Thursday night. Anti-Catholic stereotypes are so accepted by our cultural elite that they are either defended or simply ignored—never condemned!

It’s too soon to judge whether this show will join the list of anti-Catholic “entertainment” fare that has emanated from Hollywood in recent decades. We’ll withhold judgment for now. But it’s not off to a good start.

“SPOTLIGHT” STARS ARE PHONIES

Bill Donohue comments on remarks made by “Spotlight” stars on the occasion of the SAG Awards Saturday night:

“Spotlight,” which is about the Boston Globe’s coverage of the abuse scandal in the Archdiocese of Boston, has given rise to a steady stream of wild statements about the Catholic Church. The latest irresponsible comment was made at the SAG Awards by star Mark Ruffalo. “Many of the archdioceses that have had molestations happening in them still haven’t released the names of the priests who are known to be child molesters and rapists.”

Between 1950 and 2002, 4 percent of Catholic priests had an allegation made against them; only half of the allegations were substantiated. Moreover, between 2005 and 2014, an average of 8.4 credible accusations were made against roughly 40,000 priests. Ergo, it is a monumental smear to tar the entire Catholic Church. That is what many pundits, and some of those associated with “Spotlight,” are doing.

If Ruffalo were sincerely interested in this issue, he would admit that the public knows more about the names of guilty priests than it does the names of guilty Hollywood employees. Child rape is hardly unknown in Tinseltown. But when an attempt was made to bring that story to the big screen, studio executives tried to crush it. Just ask Amy Berg, the director of the documentary, “An Open Secret.” They tried to censor her. She persevered, but the real story here is the way the Hollywood elite went out of its way to derail her account.

Aside from Berg and a few others, no one in Hollywood wants to discuss the way kids are being sexually abused there. This is all the more astonishing when we consider that the sexual molestation of youngsters in Hollywood is not something that happened between 1965 and 1985—the height of the priestly sexual abuse scandal—it is happening now.

MAHER EQUATES ISIS WITH BIBLE

Bill Donohue comments on Bill Maher’s latest smear:

On his Friday night HBO show, Bill Maher quoted Marco Rubio as saying, “We are clearly called by the Bible to adhere to our civil authorities, but that conflicts with our requirements to adhere to God’s rules. So when those two come into conflict, God’s rules always win.” To which Maher said, “No! That’s what ISIS believes.”

Rubio should have said when our adherence to our civil authorities conflict, God’s rules always win. No matter, his larger point is accurate. Indeed, it is so accurate that Maher is in a bind for ridiculing him. At Nuremberg, Nazis leaders pleaded innocent, citing their allegiance to the civil authorities. They were convicted nonetheless. But on what basis?

The positive law, that which the government posits, is the civil law. It was to the positive law that Nazis appealed—they were just following orders. The natural law, which is central to Catholic teachings, maintains that clear notions of right and wrong are inscribed in our hearts. It is this principle that the civil authorities invoked to convict the Nazis. Lucky for mankind that they did. Maher understands none of this.

If there is any religious book that ISIS follows, it is not the Bible—it is the Koran. Moreover, if everyone followed the heart of the Old Testament, the Ten Commandments, we would not have ISIS-driven terrorism. Because Rubio is Catholic, he could also appeal to the Two Great Commandments, as stated by Jesus.

  • “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength.”
  • “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

It is impossible to follow the Two Great Commandments and justify anything that ISIS has done. If Maher doesn’t get this, he is hopeless.
