COMEDY CENTRAL FUELS HATRED OF AMERICA

thBill Donohue comments on last night’s Christmas episode of “Tosh.0” on Comedy Central:

Host Daniel Tosh opened a segment, “Beef Baby Jesus,” by explaining that in a previous episode viewers were encouraged to tweet using the hashtag #beefbaby. Tosh then showed a clip on how the “beef baby” was made using meat, human feces, and semen. Tosh then wrapped the “beef baby” in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger.

Here is a transcript of his remarks:

A few weeks ago this show made hashtag #beefbaby the number one trending topic in the world. That’s not a big deal, Twitter is meaningless. And when I told the network that we were doing a Christmas episode they insisted that I show everyone how the beef baby was born. And I thought it was a little controversial, but hey, they’re the boss.

Here’s what you’ll need if you want to make your own beef baby at home. You take a quarter pound of beef [shows raw meat] and two sticks of steamy hot fudge [shows an up close video of a person defecating] and put it in a very obscure device called a uterine box. Then top it off with a batch of fresh squeezed glaze [a man is shown masturbating—the penis is censored]. Combine all the ingredients, and out comes a perfectly formed miracle beef baby [a clump of meat that looks like a fetus is shown]. Look at that beef baby—such a beautiful beef baby. Don’t forget to wrap that beef baby in swaddling clothes, before laying him in a manger [a piece of fabric is wrapped around the beef baby and it’s superimposed into a nativity scene].

We have men and women in the armed forces fighting for our freedoms this Thanksgiving, but what they are not fighting for is the right to abuse those freedoms. Let’s be clear about this: The depraved executives at Comedy Central who authorized this frontal assault on Christians did not exercise their First Amendment right—they perverted it.

No wonder many Muslims look at the way we interpret freedom and wind up hating us. It is the likes of Comedy Central that fuels the animus.

SICKO GAY LEADER GETS MEDIA PASS

635521039345848886-Terrence-Patrick-Bean-66-1-Bill Donohue comments on a media cover-up of a gay leader’s behavior:

He likes to hide his camera in the smoke-alarm over his bed, videoing kinky sex with his boyfriends. He is one of the biggest porn kings in American history, making a fortune off of “barebacking” videos—the kind of unprotected sex that led directly to AIDS. And when he is not bundling hundreds of thousands of dollars for President Obama, he is riding with him on Air Force One. He was arrested last week in his Portland, Oregon home for rape. Charged with a felony, he is accused of sodomizing a teenage boy in 2013. Meet Terrence Patrick Bean.

Bean is not just another rapist—he is a co-founder of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s most powerful homosexual organization, and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund. And how have the media dealt with this story? With a yawn: AP ran one story totaling 133 words, CNN ran a couple of clips, and Fox News gave it a brief mention (some of the stories failed to mention Bean’s HRC role).

Last year, when Obama appointed Howard Gutman as U.S. Ambassador to Belgium, the media also reacted with a stunning lack of curiosity: he was accused of soliciting sex from children. But HRC was not lazy—it vigorously defended its gay hero.

HRC does not simply promote the radical gay agenda, it engages in smear campaigns against the Catholic Church. It continually brands as “anti-gay” every pro-marriage effort by the bishops. It also lectures the Vatican on internal matters: it offers instruction on the proper formation for men in the seminaries. Not surprisingly, it applied to march in New York City’s 2015 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

If a Catholic bishop does not call 911 at the drop of a hat regarding dirty pictures possessed by a priest, he is upbraided by the media and gay leaders. But when a gay superstar is arrested for raping a minor, the same critics say nothing. They never did care about the kid—just the identity of the abuser.

POPE CHALLENGES EUROPEANS

rightrelatedBill Donohue comments on today’s address by Pope Francis to the European Parliament:

This was one of Pope Francis’ signature statements. He beckoned his audience to recover their religious moorings, focusing on the positive link between Christianity and Europe. This means an appreciation of what he called the “transcendent dignity” of the human person. Dignity is given recognition in the respect for inalienable human rights, and this, he stressed, extends to the right to profess one’s faith.

The communal aspects of Catholic thought were evident in the way Pope Francis addressed liberty. We are not “monads,” or disconnected atoms, nor are we “absolutes”; rather, we are “beings in relation.” Sounding very much like his two predecessors, he said, “unless the rights of each individual are harmoniously ordered to the greater good, those rights will end up being considered limitless and consequently will become a source of conflicts and violence.”

Speaking of violence, the Holy Father spoke out against Christian persecution. In an obvious reference to Muslims, he said, “Communities and individuals today find themselves subjected to barbaric acts of violence: they are evicted from their homes and native lands, sold as slaves, killed, beheaded, crucified or burned alive, under the shameful and complicit silence of so many.”

Pope Francis also condemned “selfish lifestyles” and the Western “throwaway culture.” But he did not lash out against a market economy. Instead, he called for a balance between the pursuit of profit and the needs of workers. We need to find “new ways of joining market flexibility with the need for stability and security on the part of workers.”

Furthermore, we should embrace the Christian contribution to the “social and cultural formation” of Europe, he said, and not see it as a “threat to the secularity” of nations or the independence of its institutions.

Pope Francis has given many significant statements. This one is my favorite, thus far.

“JUDGMENT DAY” AT PLANET FITNESS

Planet-Fitness-Judgment-Free-Zone-Lunk-AlarmBill Donohue comments on what happened last week at an Orange City, Florida Planet Fitness gym:

A 70-year old man went to his Planet Fitness gym wearing a T-shirt that said, “Abortion Kills a Person.” Although he has worn the shirt many times before, this time he was told to leave. The next day he showed up wearing a shirt that read, “Pray to End Abortion.” He was booted again.

Planet Fitness says it allows local franchises to determine its dress code. But it does have a mission statement that is binding on all fitness centers. “We at Planet Fitness are here to provide a unique environment in which anyone—and we mean anyone—can be comfortable.” Except for Mike Amoroso: he made one of the gym’s employees uncomfortable and that is why he was sent home.

The mission statement also says, “As we evolve and educate ourselves, we will seek to perfect this safe, energetic environment, where everyone feels accepted and respected.” Except for Mike Amoroso: the censorial employee who showed him the gate failed to evolve and educate himself when Mike returned with his “Pray to End Abortion” shirt.

Just a few weeks ago, Chris Rondeau, the CEO of Planet Fitness, was asked about bringing his franchise to Canada. “What’s your culture like?” His response was precious: “Very strong. The ‘judgment free zone’ is really true to everyone’s heart. That is the most important in my eyes because once you believe in it, you’ll always do the right thing for the customer.” But the guy who kicked Mike out obviously doesn’t believe in it, and he still has his job.

Looks like “Judgment Day” has finally arrived at Planet Fitness.

R.I. MEDIA TARGET PRIESTS

Journal NBC 10Bill Donohue comments on the way priests are treated by some media outlets in Rhode Island:

In December 2012, the Diocese of Providence learned of accusations against Father Barry Meehan; he was accused of sexually molesting adolescents. The police were immediately contacted. In January 2013, he was suspended and removed from ministry; the diocese is awaiting a decision from the Vatican to permanently remove him. Last Friday, he was arrested and indicted. Had he been a clergy member of another religion, the media would have recorded the arrest and moved on. But Meehan is a priest, and that matters greatly to the Providence Journal and NBC 10.

The Providence Journal got so excited that it published a timeline of all sexual abuse cases involving Rhode Island priests since 1972. NBC 10 got so jacked up that it summoned its I-Team: it scoured public records looking for more dirt (it actually began its investigation last year).

We could find no evidence that the Providence Journal has ever provided its readers with a timeline of sexual abuse cases involving ministers, rabbis, or public school teachers. Nor do we know of an NBC 10 I-Team report on this subject. Yet they don’t lack for material.

Just this month, Rev. Jeffrey Nichols was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing a student, one for each year he molested her. But there was no timeline and no I-Team report by either the newspaper or the TV channel. That’s because Nichols is a minister. Indeed, he committed his crimes while serving as principal at a Baptist school.

And how did the Providence Journal respond to Minister Nichols? It printed a small AP story; NBC 10 simply noted the same AP story on its website, providing no TV coverage, much less an I-Team investigation.

POPE LAUDS MORAL TEACHINGS

sposi01Bill Donohue comments on two recent statements by Pope Francis:

On November 15, in an address before the Association of Italian Catholic Doctors, Pope Francis took direct aim at those touting “quality of life” arguments. “There is no human life that is more sacred than another…just as there is no human life qualitatively more significant than another,” he said. Thus did he reject the grounds upon which the doctor-assisted suicide movement is promoted.

The pope also spoke of a “false compassion” which promotes scientific ways to “produce” a child. Specifically, he said, “We are living in a time of experimentation with life. But a bad experiment. Making children rather than accepting them as a gift, as I said. Playing with life.”

Importantly, the pope defended the Church’s teaching on abortion on scientific grounds, not on religious or philosophical ones. Abortion, he said, is a “scientific problem because there is a human life there, and it is not lawful to take out a human life to solve a problem.”

On November 17, at a Vatican colloquium on “The Complementarity of Man and Woman in Marriage,” the pope stressed the complementarity of “the two sexes,” and how “each man and woman brings his or her distinctive contributions to their marriage and to the formation of their children.” Similarly, he said, “Children have a right to grow up in a family with a father and a mother capable of creating a suitable environment for the child’s development and emotional maturity.”

Notice the pope did not speak about “gender,” or socially learned sex roles, but of the “sexes,” meaning nature-produced differences. This was intentional. That is why he did not say that children have a right to grow up in a family of two adults, no matter how loving: he was exact in citing the need for children to have “a father and a mother.”

Don’t look for the media, and some in Catholic circles, to punctuate these remarks by the Holy Father. Which is why we did.

NEW MEXICO PAPER SHOWS BIAS

Screen shot 2014-11-14 at 1.15.03 PMBill Donohue comments on an editorial by the Gallup Independent, a New Mexico daily, attacking the Diocese of Gallup:

Much to the pleasure of the Gallup Independent, the Diocese of Gallup filed for bankruptcy a year ago. How do I know they are delighted? Because of a November 12 editorial noting the “one-year anniversary.”

The editorial wants Bishop James S. Wall to “Publicize the list of credibly accused abusers by inserting it for three consecutive weeks in the church bulletins of every parish that was ever part of the Gallup Diocese.” Reality check: Parishes that have closed have no bulletin.

There is a rampant problem with the sexual abuse of minors among the Navajo in the Gallup area, yet we know of no campaign by this newspaper to demand that they publicize such a list. Wonder why.

The overreach of Bob Zollinger, who runs the Gallup Independent, is incontestable: “Publicly release a list of all real property in Arizona and New Mexico, along with the sale price,” he says. Here’s my favorite: “The Diocese of Gallup has no need for such property.”

I do not know if Bob has ever employed any wayward characters at his paper, but if he did, would he not think it evidence of an agenda if his critics opined that his newspaper occupies too much space in Gallup? Moreover, since Bob is one of the richest persons in New Mexico, and rich people have been known to cheat on their taxes, does he not have a moral obligation to let the public examine his tax returns? Perhaps he could publish them for three consecutive weeks in his newspaper.

Maybe Bob is not anti-Catholic. Maybe he’s just loopy: he’s gotten into several physical encounters, two of which were with city mayors (in one instance the mayor pinned him to the floor, which is the way things usually go for Bob).

We don’t have Bob’s email address, but we have his managing editor’s.

NEW RELIGIOUS RIGHTS FOR AIRMEN

PHOTO ILLUSTRATION OF MAN HOLDING ROSARY WITH U.S. FLAG IN BACKGROUNDBill Donohue comments on the latest directives issued by the U.S. Air Force on the subject of religious expression:

The revisions are a major step forward for religious liberty. Air Force Instruction 1, Section 2.11 no longer says that “an individual’s free exercise of religion” must be balanced against the “governmental establishment of religion.” When Madison wrote the so-called establishment clause, he, and those who ratified it, meant it to prohibit the establishment of a national church and governmental preference of one religion over another. They also insisted that the government was prohibited from encroaching on religious expression, not vice versa.

Also deleted from 2.11 is the invidious rule that Airmen “must avoid the actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs.” It is one thing to badger others, quite another to merely state, unapologetically, one’s personal religious beliefs. Also stricken is any talk about “potential” problems that might occur: such language is overly broad and can be used to censor speech indiscriminately.

Also welcomed are two new strictures. Section 2.11.3 reads: “Expression of sincerely held beliefs…shall not be prohibited unless the expression would have a real, not hypothetical, adverse impact on military readiness, unit cohesion, good order and discipline, health and safety, and mission accomplishment.” Section 2.11.4 reads: “Insofar as practicable, an Airman’s expression of sincerely held beliefs may not be used as the basis of any adverse personnel action, discrimination, or denial of promotion, schooling, training, or assignment.”

As an Air Force veteran, and religious leader, I commend the U.S. Air Force for standing up to those who have been bullying them for years. Censorship is a serious matter, and while there are legitimate national security reasons that allow for its reasonable exercise, not among them is the right to religious expression as traditionally exercised by men and women in the armed forces.
