PARIS CARTOONISTS SHOT; POPE VINDICATES OUR POSITION
A week into the new year saw the horrible death of 12 people, most of whom worked at the Paris office of Charlie Hebdo; a police officer was among the dead. The weekly publication is known for its coarse content and vulgar cartoons. Muslim terrorists, upset with depictions of Muhammad, were responsible for the carnage.
Bill Donohue quickly became part... [Read more...]
The Catholic Advantage
We all want to be healthy, happy, and make it to heaven; even atheists who do not believe in heaven would prefer they enter the pearly gates if given only two choices. Who are the most likely, and the least likely, to achieve the Three H’s of health, happiness, and heaven is the subject of my new book.
The real challenge, I found,... [Read more...]
FREE SPEECH PHONIES LEARN NOTHING
Bill Donohue asks artists not to intentionally insult people of faith and in the mind of some this means he favors blasphemy laws. For example, he was invited by Kelsey Rupp of the editorial board of USA Today to write an “opposing view” on blasphemy laws in the Middle East: the paper would oppose the laws and he was expected to support... SHOULD THE MEDIA SHOW THE CARTOONS?
When the Danish cartoons were published a decade ago, the media refused to show them. With the exception of the Boston Phoenix, which cited safety concerns, the others either gave no reason or feigned interest in not offending people of faith. Bill Donohue comments on another questionable accusation against a priest:

Why might I be inclined... [Read more...]
PUNISHING BIGOTED SPEECH ON CAMPUS
Bill Donohue comments on the decision by the University of Oklahoma to expel two fraternity students for making racist comments:
Racist speech on campus is unacceptable and should be addressed by administrators. But does it warrant expulsion? If it constitutes a “clear and present danger,” it should. For example, consider a racist speaker... [Read more...]
THE FILTHY LENS OF GARRY WILLS
Bill Donohue comments on an op-ed by Garry Wills that was published yesterday by the Washington Post:
In his 2006 address at Regensburg University, Pope Benedict XVI described how Islam was perceived as “evil and inhuman” by a 14th-century Christian emperor who was under siege by Muslims. The central point of the pope’s address was... [Read more...]
NEW YORK TIMES CRITIQUES CARDINAL EGAN
Bill Donohue comments on today’s New York Times article on the passing of Cardinal Edward M. Egan:
Unlike the rest of the New York media, which treated the late New York Archbishop with respect, the New York Times took advantage of his death to write a statement that read more like an editorial than an obituary.
The Times wasted no time telling... [Read more...]
COMEDY CENTRAL—BACK TO THE SEWER
Bill Donohue comments on last night’s Comedy Central show, “@Midnight”:
Last night’s game show contest featured Neal Brennan responding to a question by host Chris Hardwick about confession. “Forgive me father for I have sinned, I went to Catholic school growing up. While I was never molested, I did f*** a few priests.”... [Read more...]
